Interview with Skymax: Consistency, Growth and Creative Focus
How structure and energy shape a modern techno identity
Hello Artem, how are you today, and what have you been up to lately, both musically and personally?
I’m doing really well, thanks, energized and locked in. Musically, I’m deep in that constant evolution phase, refining my sound, picking up new techniques, and always chasing that next level of impact for the dancefloor and the listener. On a personal level, I’m focused on staying sharp, keeping my mind clear and my body strong through regular training and outdoor time. It all feeds back into the music.
Can you take us back to the beginning, when did you first start making music, and how did your early education in music theory influence your path?
Music has been part of me since I was a kid. Around 8 or 9 years old, I started music school on the accordion, which is where I first got properly introduced to music theory. It felt like unlocking a secret language. Years later, I took all that foundation and poured it into electronic music production. That early training still echoes in everything I do today, it gave me the structure to experiment freely and build something that feels distinctly mine.
You are based in Miami, a city with a strong and diverse electronic music scene. How has that environment shaped your sound and artistic direction?
Miami has been huge for me. The underground scene here is raw and vibrant, I’ve spent a lot of time immersed in it, watching what hits hard, what moves people, and what lingers in the memory. Being surrounded by that energy helped me refine my taste and understand what truly connects. It pushed me to create something that doesn’t just fit in, but carves its own space.
Your music blends techno and tech house with hypnotic and driving elements. How would you describe your musical identity in your own words?
I’m building a signature sound that’s instantly recognizable, hypnotic yet energetic, familiar in the best way but with a fresh edge. It’s that feeling when a track hits and something just clicks, this is different, but it feels right. That’s the spot I’m always aiming for.
